On 23rd June 2016 the British people did something incredibly brave, or incredibly stupid, depending on your view point and voted themselves out of the EU. This is my diary of what happened next …
When an entry starts with Brexit Day: xx, it's referring to the number of days since the Brexit vote on the 23rd June 2016.
On the later entries, you'll find 3 numbers at the bottom in brackets, for example:
These numbers are days:
- the first is the number of days since the Brexit vote on 23rd June 2016;
- the second is the number of days since Article 50 was invoked on the 29th March 2017;
- the third is the numbers of days until the time limit for the UK to leave the EU, as defined by the invoking of Article 50, runs out on 28th March 2019.
What these diaries are about …
On the 23rd June 2016 the great British Public, in all its infinite wisdom, did something incredibly stupid. They voted to leave the European Union by 51.9% to 48.1%.
I think this was a really stupid thing to do, and I think it's going to cause an incredible amount of damage to our country.
After spending most of the 24th in a state of shock, I decided to keep a diary of what I see happening as this story unfolds.
Just to be clear, this is a personal diary so it's not going to be editorially balance. It's a recording of the things that crossed my radar. The major stuff is going to be the same as everyone else's, but the minor stuff will probably be different.
For the record, I voted to Remain because I genuine believed it was the best thing for us to do.
On a personal note, I really, really hope this isn't going to be as bad as I think it's going to be, because I really love this country and I don't want to see it destroyed. On a selfish note, I also don't want to see my current life destroyed either.
Time will tell …
