According to an article in today's Metro, recently elected French president Emmanuel Macron, is said to believe it would be better to end up with a 'hard Brexit' than to let Britian walk away with an advantageous deal, even if it harmed France's trade.

This is exactly the sort of thing that I was worried about. People keep using the argument that the EU won't hurt us with a harsh exit strategy because it will hurt them as well. They never seem to consider that people might be willing to be hurt us, even if it will hurt them.
