The New York Review of Books: Britain: The End of a Fantasy

Theresa May went to the country last week asking for a clear mandate to negotiate the Brexit settlement with the EU. It completely fell apart on her. This article argues that it was never going to happen, because there is no clear view in the British populous as to what they want. Brexit only scrapped through at 52%/48%, and there's growing evidence that at lot of the people who voted to Leave, were actually protesting about the government ignoring them, rather than being motivated by a genuine desire to leave the EU. Hence there was no mandate to the had.

It also disturbing because we're moving into a situation where dictators arise ...
