Angela Eagle has withdrawn from the Labour leadership race in favour of Owen Smith after receiving less nominations from MPs/MEPs (71 to 82).

Prior to ballot, both she and Mr Smith had said that whoever gained the least support would withdraw, leaving the way clear for the winner to challenge Jeremy Corbyn for the leadership of the Labour Party uncontested.

Given everything that went on during the Conservative campaign, it's very refreshing to see politicians acting in a civilised manner for what they deem the best interests of their party rather than of themselves.

Perhaps the Conservatives should take note.
